Packing List
A package-by-package list of what is being shipped. The forwarder plans the load from it, customs check the cargo against it and the consignee uses it to count what arrived.
- Issued by
- The seller or shipper.
- When it's needed
- Practically every shipment; essential for LCL, air freight and customs inspections.
- Transport
- Sea, Air, Road, Rail
What it contains
- Number and type of packages (pallets, cartons, crates)
- Marks and numbers on each package
- Contents of each package and quantities
- Net and gross weight per package and in total
- Dimensions per package and total volume (CBM)
Practical tips
- Measure real dimensions including the pallet — they decide LCL and air charges.
- Mark packages exactly as listed so a customs officer can find a specific item quickly.
