CMR Consignment Note · CMR
The international road consignment note under the CMR Convention. It proves the haulier took over the goods, travels with the truck and, signed by the consignee, becomes the proof of delivery.
- Issued by
- The sender or the haulier, signed by both at loading.
- When it's needed
- Every international road shipment where the loading and delivery countries are different and at least one has signed the CMR Convention.
- Transport
- Road
What it contains
- Sender, consignee and haulier
- Place and date of taking over, place of delivery
- Description of goods, number of packages, marks and gross weight
- Instructions for customs and other formalities
- Signatures and stamps of sender, haulier and consignee
Practical tips
- Note any visible damage or shortage on the CMR at delivery — without a reservation, a claim is much harder.
- The haulier's liability is limited (8.33 SDR per kg gross weight) — insure valuable cargo separately.
- Keep the signed copy: in intra-EU sales it is key evidence for zero-rated VAT.
