Export Declaration · EAD / MRN
The customs declaration for goods leaving the EU. Once accepted it gets an MRN (Movement Reference Number); the confirmed exit is the exporter's proof for zero-rated VAT.
- Issued by
- The exporter or a customs broker on its behalf, lodged electronically with customs.
- When it's needed
- Every shipment of goods leaving the EU customs territory. Not needed for transport within the EU.
- Transport
- Sea, Air, Road, Rail
What it contains
- Exporter, declarant and consignee, with EORI numbers
- Description of goods, HS / CN codes, quantities and weights
- Statistical value and invoice reference
- Office of export and office of exit
- Transport details and container numbers
Practical tips
- Keep the exit confirmation — without it the tax authority may treat the sale as domestic and charge VAT.
- Lodge the declaration before the goods leave — for sea, before the container goes to the terminal.
